Coventry Art Show
Disabled, D/deaf, Neurodivergent
Artist Curatorial Fellowship Open Call

Further Information about the Opportunity

This Curatorial Fellowship supports practitioners who face barriers to working in or with ‘traditional’ galleries and art spaces.

The Fellowship is managed by Art Riot Collective.

Who can apply?

● We are looking for an artist who is currently living in or close to the Coventry area, and who faces barriers to participation in the art world as a result of Disability, Neurodivergence, a long-term health condition or other physiological, cognitive, sensory or communication barriers, or intersections of these states of being.**

● We recognise the diversity of lived and creative experiences of people who identify within the above description. ARC understands anyone can identify as having barriers to participation if they feel disabled by systems, structures and environments of the art world

● We encourage applicants to not be put off from applying if their current artistic practice does not align with the themes of British Art Show 10 and the interests of its curator Ekow Eshun

● We encourage applications from artists who may not have previously considered curating or creating exhibitions before

Other Important Information:

● How and when the 10 days of fellowship residency and 10 days of reflection/ rest happen is up to you - we can work with you to decide on the residency dates so they best meet your needs

● The fellowship is not specifically intended to be for an artist to make and exhibit their own work but to learn new skills that help them connect with the art world in new ways

● If you are in receipt of Disability Benefits, PIP, Universal Credit or any other income that might be affected by the artist fee, please contact ARC to discuss how we can support you - we do not want to discourage applicants and will work to minimise any risks to your financial security

** We summarise this description as Disabled, D/deaf, Neurodivergent but understand and respect you may have a different way of describing yourself or the barriers you experience.
